| Customer Reviews: A long overdue update to a Space Marine Mainstay... December 11, 2009 Andrey Dravinski (Los Angeles California) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A major force in any Space Marine Armory, the Land Raider will form the backbone of all of your close armored assaults in your games, particularly if you need to deliver a payload of Terminators to the enemy lines. I've loved building these models ever since my first one, except for one major thing....
The Hurricane Bolters....
Good god the Hurricane Bolters. For those new to the game, the Hurricane bolters are a pair of Sponsoon mounted weapons that are essentially 3 Twin-Linked Bolters Strapped together and mounted on either side of the tank.
Originally, these and the Twin Linked assault cannon (and the front mounted frag grenade launchers) were made of metal. Often they were poorly molded or cast. This meant that mounting and assembling the fiddly beasts was an excersize in patience and how much Superglue and Accelerant fumes you could huff in the span of several hours.
Ultimately I had to bite the bullet and drill and pin them all to gether because trying to get them to hold together when moving them around or shipping them from game to game only to have them break apart led to a fair degree of swearing on my part.
Thankfully, GW decided lately to move away from metal/plastic hybrid kits for the most part and this new kit solves all of the previous frustrations I had with the older kit, and adds a bonus to it as well.
This new kit is all plastic, and has a different configuration available to it as well. The default Crusader model is still there, but now includes the Redeemer variant. This eschews the Hurricane Bolter Sponsoons for the Flamestorm Cannons (Think souped up Heavy flamers) for line breaching duties.
The overal detail has improved from the previous kit, and the accessories sprue has received a nice update.. Purity seals and other odds and ends have been recast and they definitely appear more intricate than before.
Assembly also has significantly improved, not just with the elimination of the metal parts, but with the rest of the tank as well. The visual instructions are nicely separated, and clearly allow you to define wether you want the redeemer or the crusader variant.
A very nice kit by GW, and a great update on a classic model.

Refer to that product above...
Anyway, I hate to go up against an army that has a Land Raider and a Crusader within the same ranks. It's beastly and great for a beginner awesome tank/transport!
